無頼漢

To the heart of youth the world is a highwayside.
Passing for ever，he fares; and on either hand，

月が沈む夜 星たちのように濃密に
快楽が若者に襲い掛かる
だのに若者は己の高貴な運命に向かい
旅立ってゆく
通り過ぎながらただ手を振り
行きずりの一言だけを叫ぶ
庭園の門に立つ恋人に向かって
ただ子供っぽい旋律を歌い
その顔は消えていくのだ 夢の中に
In dreams unhappy，I behold you stand

不幸せな夢の中で、僕は君が佇んでいるのを見た
昔の姿のままに
君の手の中にある、思い出されることのない形見

The infinite shining heavens
Rose，and I saw in the night
Uncountable angel stars
Showering sorrow and light.
真夜中に、限りなく輝く蒼穹に
昇りゆくさまを僕は見た
数えきれない程の天使の星たちが
悲しみと光をふりまく様を I saw them distant as heaven，
Dumb and shining and dead，
And the idle stars of the night
Were dearer to me than bread.
僕は蒼穹の彼方に星たちを見た
押し黙り、光り、死んでいる様を
夜の押し黙った星たちは

The stars looked over the sea，

戸口ではまことの歓迎の言葉が語られ
昔の愛しき日々が、暖炉の火に照らされた顔があったものだ
懐かしき気さくな仲間たち、君たちはもはや戻ってはこない Home was home then，my dear，full of kindly faces，

Fire and the windows bright glittered on the moorland;
Song，tuneful song，built a palace in the wild.
Now when day dawns on the brow of the moorland，
Lone stands the house，and the chimney-stone is cold.
Lone let it stand，now the friends are all departed，
The kind hearts，the true hearts，that loved the place of old.
あの時確かに我が家は僕の家だった、優しい顔に満ちた優しい君、

幼子にとって幸せなことに
炎も窓も明るく荒れ地に照り映えていた
歌が、麗しい歌が、荒地に宮殿を築いていた
今や夜明けが荒地の縁を照らした時でさえも
家はひっそりとして立ち、煙突の石も冷え切っている
さびしく佇むことだね、今や友は皆いなくなってしまった
あの懐かしい場所を愛した 優しい心やまことの心の持ち主たちは皆逝ってしまった Spring shall come，come again，calling up the moorfowl，
Spring shall bring the sun and the rain，bring the bees and flowers;
Red shall the heather bloom over hill and valley，
Soft flow the stream through the even-flowing hours.
Fair the day shine as it shone on my childhood -
Fair shine the day on the house with open door;
Birds come and cry there and twitter in the chimney -
But I go for ever and come again no more.
それでも春はやってくる、再びやってくることだろう
荒地の鳥たちを呼び起こしながら
春は太陽や雨を呼び寄せ、そして雨は花と蜂を呼び寄せるだろう
赤くヒースは花咲くだろう 丘や谷間の上で
やわらかく水は流れるだろう 同じように流れる時間の中で

翼に乗って運ばれ続ける
歌い手が死んで
